Testing of Power Electronics in the High-Voltage Laboratory

VISPIRON SYSTEMS provides the infrastructure for the test services of the high-voltage laboratory. For a customer from the automotive sector, for the project “Safeguarding power electronics”, power electronics components are fully tested in the pre-production stage.

1. Initial Situation - Increasing Demand for Electromobility

Since 2010, VISPIRON SYSTEMS GmbH has been focusing on power electronics in the development of HV components. The ever-increasing entry of electromobility into people’s everyday mobility sets new standards for the reliability of the electronic components and software parts used. The development of high-voltage components is based on reliable results and statements from development-accompanying tests, with the aim of making this core technology ready for series production. Automotive OEMs also rely heavily on the expertise and resources of development service providers.

2. Challenge - Test Power Electronics

The complex set-up of an internal/own test infrastructure requires OEMs and their production partners to invest a lot of financial and human resources, often these are lacking for the OEM’s own service provision or are not profitable for peak covering. The pressure to quickly provide the consumer with products that are ready for series production is also increasingly being passed on to the development department, which must base its clearance on valid quality statements.

3. Procedure - Creation of the Test Concept

Together with our customer, a specification analysis was carried out and the required test scope was defined based on the results. VISPIRON SYSTEMS takes responsibility for test planning, execution and test evaluation. Our power electronics specialists draw up the test concept based on the customer requirements and the applicable standards (such as the cross-OEM standard LV124/148). After the test cases have been specified, the corresponding tests are prepared and finally carried out. The test report is handed over to the customer. Changes to the requirements, the test environment and the tools are continuously evaluated and implemented. During the entire process, we provide our customers with service packages that are individually tailored to their demand and we also organise and carry out special tests such as EMC, vibration, or dust tests in partner laboratories.

4. Conclusion - Test Results

The high-voltage laboratory of VISPIRON SYSTEMS not only gives our customer access to fast and reliable test results for their high-voltage components but also allows them to rely on a flexible and reliable partner with many years of experience at any time. VISPIRON SYSTEMS takes complete responsibility for the set-up and operation of complex test infrastructure, thus supporting the automotive OEM’s ambitious goal of taking a pioneering role in the field of electromobility.
